Camp Carmangay is a cost free camp for disadvantaged youth and youth at risk between the ages of ten and fifteen years old. We are supported and accessed by Law enforcement agencies throughout Alberta as well as various social service groups. We work together with these groups to provide mentorship and increase civic responsibility, crime prevention education, self esteem and positive lifestyle choices. Camp Carmangay also provides youth with a positive and unprejudiced environment to pursue the pleasures of being young which they might not be able to experience otherwise.

Some of our activities and programs at Camp Carmangay include: Western Horsemanship education, Alberta and Aboriginal history, team sports, arts and crafts and a variety of clinics on bullying, abuse (drug, physical etc.), racism and more. All of our activities are designed to develop leadership skills, relationship building skills and to promote self-confidence, teamwork and civic responsibility. We want to impress character and leadership on these youth so that they may positively influence their community, sustain meaningful relationships with others and develop a positive self image.

Organizations such as various Alberta Law Enforcement agencies, McMann Youth Services and more refer young people to Camp Carmangay. We also encourage third party referrals through Law Enforcement agencies and individuals in the community that identify a youth that might benefit from Camp Carmangay. This year alone third party referrals made up 30% of our participants.

We are expecting to return to society a more positive and focused young person. We are giving these youth the building blocks for a more driven and successful positive life. In turn we expect these youth to contribute back to their communities and people surrounding them. Not only is this a benefit to the youth themselves but it is a cost savings to society as well.
